American pilot training can be a useful tool for European pilots training to gain either a Private Pilots Licence or looking to go on to train to be a Commercial Pilot. Often chosen by many for it's typically good weather, good and improving exchange rates, friendly approach to flight training and America's abundance of airports and aviation oriented businesses, most european pilots self funding their flight training will look to the USA to help reduce their training costs. Many flight schools within the United States are familiar with receiving foreign pilots and frequently train pilots from all over the world including Europe, including most JAA countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and many others. A little catch you out however is the cost of conversion. If you choose to train in any other country, most likely you will gain their national pilots licence and you will be required to convert this to a European Commercial Pilots Licence on return. It is important that you fully research the detailed requirements and costs of this. Many experienced flight schools can provide you information of this and help you to gain the appropriate experience so that conversion is as cost effective as possible. If you do intend to return after training, do go out with the complete knowledge of your local CPL issue requirements, such as night flying, multi-engine hours, instrument hours etc... and make sure you return with these complete.
