Overseas Pilot Training

Overseas Pilot Training

A cost reducing technique is to pursue overseas pilot training. Often exchange rates and favourable weather conditions can make the cost of training significantly cheaper by not only reducing the cost of training but also reducing the time frame. When this training is complete, you will have to return to convert to the European licence unless you’ve managed to gain this overseas.

Foreign pilot training can be incredibly enjoyable and rewarding. Opportunities to increase your skills will present themselves but on return to Europe, many operators might not appreciate your experience from overseas. A lot of the foreign providers do realise this and offer programs for pilots to progress from their training program in an instructors job or to work as a charter pilot in a twin engine aircraft or alike. This sort of experience can be incredibly valuable but make sure the scheme is for real and won’t just have you fly a selection flight and then drop you because you don’t ‘make the grade’.

Overseas training for European pilots is often undertaken in one of several countries. These include Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and the USA. A database of relevant training providers has been created for Canada and more are to follow.
